I admire simplicity. We’ve all been in a conversation, presentation, or meeting that should have ended after the first sentence, but we’re stuck nodding as a very simple situation is given a healty dose of complexity.
Simplicty makes life easier on you, your customers, and saves baby pandas (slight embelishment).
Ex 1 - “In n Out”: There’s even simplicity in the name. I remember the first time I walked into fast food heaven and realized I was being told what to order. Maybe we’re all submissive by nature, but there’s something pleasent about looking at a menu and knowing what to get. Burger, Fries, Shake period. Don’t ruin my life with filet of fish’s, big and nasty’s, or spicy chicken sandwiches. People like to be told what to do.
Ex 2 - Twitter: 140 characters. Enough said.
Ex 3 - TinyURL: Oooo what can you do at this website? You make URL’s shorter. Don’t over deliver, customers like simplicty and you’ll be rewarded for making lives easier.
Simplicty can be a tough pill to swallow when you’re loaded with great ideas that all seem to connect. Do yourself a favor, start by picking one thing, do it well, and advance from there. There’s enough confusion in this world as it is.
